History of Liao

The History of Liao has a total of 116 volumes. It was revised in April of the third year of the Yuan Dynasty (1343) and completed in March of the following year. Tokhoff is the president of the capital, Temur Tazhi, He Weiyi, Zhang Qiyan, Ouyang Xuan, Jiexisi, and Lu Sicheng are the presidents, and Lian Huishan Hague and others are the historical officials. The chronicle begins with the birth of Yelu Abaoji (872 AD) and ends with the 253-year history of the Liao Dynasty in the fifth year of Emperor Tianzuo Baoda (1125), as well as the history of Western Liao established by Yelu Dashi.

The History of Liao includes 30 volumes of the Benji, 32 volumes of the Chronicles, 8 volumes of the Table, and 45 volumes of the Biography. The historical materials are based on Yeluyan's "Imperial Records", Chen Daren's "History of Liao" and Ye Longli's "Khitan National Chronicles" of the Southern Song Dynasty. Because the predecessors had laid a good foundation for the cultivation of the history of Liao, the "History of Liao" was written concisely and clearly, and was full of characteristics. Among them, the newly created "Yingwei Zhi" describes the social organization form of the Liao Dynasty's combination of military and fishery, and the distribution of tribes; The "Tribal Table" and the "Subject State Table" make the intricate ethnic and foreign relations of the Liao Dynasty clear at a glance, and the last volume of the "History of Liao", the "Chinese Interpretation", is the first of the 24 histories, which annotates the official system, tribes, and place names recorded in the Khitan language in the book, and provides a valuable basis for interpreting the Khitan script today.
