History of the Old Five Dynasties

"History of the Old Five Dynasties", written by Xue Juzheng and others in the Northern Song Dynasty. Formerly known as "Book of Liang, Tang, Jin, Han and Zhou", it is generally known as "History of the Five Dynasties". In April of the sixth year of Kaibao (973) of Song Taizu, the edict was repaired, and the book was completed in leap October of the following year. Later, because of Ouyang Xiu's "History of the New Five Dynasties", it was crowned as the "old" history. It is recorded that from the first year of Liang Kaiping (907) to the seventh year of Zhou Shizong Xiande (960), the Northern Song Dynasty destroyed the Later Zhou. There are a total of 150 volumes, including 61 volumes of the Benji, 77 volumes of biography, and 12 volumes of chronicles. There are 24 volumes of the Book of Liang, 50 volumes of the Book of Tang, 24 volumes of the Book of Jin, 11 volumes of the Book of Han, 22 volumes of the Book of Zhou, and 12 volumes of Zhi.

Since the advent of the "History of the New Five Dynasties", the "History of the Old Five Dynasties" has gradually disappeared, but there are many problems in the "History of the New Five Dynasties". In the Qing Dynasty, Shao Jinhan and others recompiled from the "Yongle Canon", but it is no longer the old appearance. Among the existing ancient books, there are more than 30 kinds of books, such as "Shufu Yuangui", "Taiping Yulan", "New Five Dynasties History Notes", "Zizhi Tongjian Examination Differences", "Zizhi Tongjian Notes", "Rongzhai Essays", "Guangzhuo Yiji", "General Calendar", "Class Essentials", "Fangyu Shenglan", "Splendid Wanhua Valley", "Career and Official Division", "Prison Turtle Jian", "Ancient and Modern Surname Book Dialectic", "Jade Sea", "Neng Gaizhai Manlu", "Memorabilia Continuation", "Tianzhong Ji" and so on. The two major contributors to the preservation of the documents of the Five Dynasties are still the "Yongle Canon" and the "Shufu Yuan Turtle". In the fortieth year of Qianlong (1775), it was set as the official history.
